Leichhardt Council is situated in the Inner Western Suburbs of Sydney occupying a land area of approximately 11 square kilometres. It is home to 51,000 residents and is an area renowned for its vibrant multicultural community, café and restaurant culture and its beautiful heritage architecture.
Graffiti Clean was asked to provide services to Leichhardt Council as part of a grant by the Attorney Generals Department to examine the effectiveness of rapid removal techniques in combination with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
A subject property in one of the worst affected areas was selected for the trail and Graffiti Clean was engaged to monitor the property every 48-hours and remove any graffiti. The program proved to be such a success that council allowed our company to expand the service to cover neighbouring streets as well.
The obvious statistical success of the trial supports the theory that rapid removal is the most effective means of combating rising graffiti vandalism, with few of the monitored properties suffering repeat attacks after the initial clean.
